Fulton County drivers and shoppers outside Atlanta are about to get another say on a tax designed to pay for roads, intersections and other transportation work. Commissioners unanimously voted Monday to put a five-year TSPLOST renewal before voters on Nov. 3, with county officials projecting more than $650 million for projects across North and South Fulton.
The action came during a special meeting with Fulton’s mayors and city leaders, who also gathered for a ceremonial signing tied to how the revenue would be distributed. CBS Atlanta reported that the Board of Commissioners approved the referendum resolution by voice vote.
The Ballot Question Keeps The Tax Outside Atlanta
The proposal would maintain an additional 0.75% sales tax — three-quarters of a cent per dollar — in Fulton County outside the city limits of Atlanta. According to Fulton County Government, the ballot question would authorize the tax for five years to fund transportation improvements and reduce congestion, with individual cities identifying and managing their projects.
Current TSPLOST Collections Are Nearing Their Cap
A county transportation briefing showed that the existing program had collected about $504.1 million through March 31, with nearly $496.6 million already disbursed to cities. The same county briefing said collections were expected to stop in July after reaching a $545.95 million cap, making Monday’s vote a push to keep the transportation funding pipeline moving.
Safety And Congestion Projects Make The Case
County officials say the renewal would support projects focused on safety, congestion reduction, economic development and quality of life. As CBS Atlanta noted, Fulton County plays an outsized role in the regional economy, accounting for roughly one-third of metro Atlanta jobs and about half of the region’s wages.
Fulton Voters Get The Final Say In November
The referendum will appear on the Nov. 3, 2026, general-election ballot for voters outside Atlanta. The Georgia Secretary of State lists Oct. 5 as the voter-registration deadline, while the Fulton County elections office says advance voting is scheduled for Oct. 13 through Oct. 30.
