Three people are dead and another is injured after a series of stabbings and an officer-involved shooting at a Gilbert residence late Saturday night. The deadly encounter unfolded near Lindsay and Elliot roads after police received a report that someone in a detached structure had been stabbed. The man police identified as the stabbing suspect was also killed.
According to KTAR News, Gilbert officers responded just before 11 p.m. to an unknown-trouble call and were given a brief description of a male suspect. Officers moved toward the back of a property containing multiple living structures and heard a woman screaming inside one of the buildings.
Police Say Suspect Ran Into Bedroom
Officers encountered a man matching the description, but police said he ran farther into the residence. They found a woman and an injured man inside before chasing the suspect into a bedroom, where the officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
How The Officer-Involved Shooting Will Be Reviewed
The Mesa Police Department will lead the officer-involved shooting investigation through the East Valley Critical Incident Response Team. The City of Mesa says its critical-incident process includes a criminal investigation into whether an officer’s use of force was lawful, followed by review by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Police located three stabbing victims on the property: two women and one man. The male victim died at the scene, one woman later died at a hospital, and the other woman suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening, KTAR News reported. Authorities said there were no outstanding suspects and had not released the identities of the victims or the suspect.
