San Diego is waking up today under mostly cloudy skies and temperatures near 70 degrees, but the gray lid should lift by midmorning. The city is headed for a mostly sunny afternoon with a high near 81, while a northwest breeze could gust to 20 mph.
At San Diego International Airport, visibility was about 10 miles, and the wind was blowing from the northwest at roughly 12 mph shortly after 5:30 AM. The forecast calls for just a 1% chance of rain today with low clouds and patchy fog favoring the coast and western valleys before clearing, according to the National Weather Service San Diego.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Temperatures should rise from the upper 60s this morning to around 80 during the early afternoon, then ease back through the evening. Northwest winds will run 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, making exposed areas feel noticeably breezier.
Heat Builds Inland
San Diego proper stays relatively mild, but the inland split will be sharper. Western valleys are expected to reach the mid-80s to low 90s today, while the deserts climb into the triple digits, and moderate heat risk becomes increasingly likely across inland valleys, mountains and deserts by Wednesday.
Mostly Sunny Through Sunday
Tomorrow and Wednesday stay mostly sunny with highs near 81 and overnight lows around 69. Thursday nudges up to 82, followed by highs near 83 on Friday and Saturday, while next Sunday remains mostly sunny with a high near 82.
Rain is not part of the city forecast through next Sunday, with daily precipitation chances generally between 0% and 6%. Farther east, a small chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms returns Thursday through next Sunday in the mountains and parts of the deserts, while no watches, warnings or advisories are listed for San Diego County.
