A man was shot in the leg outside the SkyHouse Buckhead apartment tower Wednesday after a dispute with another person turned violent, and the shooter ran off before officers arrived. The victim was alert, conscious and breathing when he reached the hospital, though police have not released his identity or any description of the person who shot him.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Atlanta police responded to a report of aggravated assault in the 3300 block of Stratford Road NE, the address of the 26-story SkyHouse Buckhead complex. The outlet's report is based on preliminary incident reports and statements provided by the Atlanta Police Department, and the investigation remained open as of Wednesday.
What Witnesses Told Investigators
Witnesses told investigators the man was shot during a dispute with an unknown person, per the same account, though what sparked the confrontation has not been made public. Grady EMS transported the injured man to the hospital, and the shooter fled the scene before officers could make contact.
Detectives questioned witnesses at the scene and were still working Wednesday to determine what led up to the shooting, the report notes. No arrests had been announced, and police had not released a description of the suspect they are searching for.
Inside the Buckhead Tower Where It Happened
SkyHouse Buckhead is a 26-story luxury high-rise with 362 residential units at 3390 Stratford Road NE, developed by Novare Group and Batson-Cook Development Company and completed in 2015, according to Rough Draft Atlanta. The tower features floor-to-ceiling glass and rooftop amenities connected to nearby transit, hallmarks of its Class-A positioning in the neighborhood.
The building changed hands earlier this year when UBS Realty Investors purchased it from Novare Group for roughly $83.4 million, closing out Novare's direct ownership of the property in the tower's $83.4 million sale. Fulton County had assessed the property at $76 million in 2025, down from $94 million in 2020.
A Building With Prior Brushes With Gunfire
Wednesday's shooting is not the first time SkyHouse Buckhead has drawn police attention. A 2023 investigation by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution found that a woman living at the complex had previously been convicted for serving as a lookout in a 2018 gang-related shooting ordered from prison by inmate Arthur Lee Cofield Jr., a case that left the victim paralyzed and is unrelated to this week's incident.
In July 2021, officers also responded to the building after reports of shots fired and fireworks aimed at the high-rise during Independence Day celebrations, according to 11Alive.
Zone 2's Crime Trends and the Legal Exposure Ahead
The 3300 block of Stratford Road NE falls within the Atlanta Police Department's Zone 2, which covers public safety across Buckhead, West Midtown, Lenox Park and Piedmont Heights. The city opened a Zone 2 mini-precinct in Buckhead's West Village in 2022, in part to free up beat officers for violent crime prevention, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Citywide, violent crime in Atlanta dropped more than 20% in 2023, with homicides falling 36% specifically within Zone 2, according to Livable Buckhead. Even so, interpersonal disputes escalating into gunfire remain a recurring concern for the neighborhood.
If a suspect is identified and arrested, Georgia law could expose the shooter to serious felony charges. Under O.C.G.A. § 16-5-21, aggravated assault involving a firearm or other deadly weapon carries a sentence of one to 20 years in prison, according to Grisham & Poole, P.C., regardless of how severe the victim's injuries turn out to be.
Part of a Pattern of Buckhead Gun Violence
Wednesday's shooting follows other recent incidents of gunfire in Buckhead. Late last month, a man was hospitalized after a recent Peachtree Hills shooting near the shopping center on Peachtree Road, and he too was reported alert and conscious when he reached the hospital.
In May, a Fulton County court granted bond to a father accused of murder in a Buckhead parking lot shooting that stemmed from a violent domestic argument in October 2025. Whether Wednesday's dispute at SkyHouse Buckhead involved residents, guests or strangers to the property remains unclear, and Atlanta police have not said whether building security cameras captured the shooter's escape.
