Gunfire tore through a bridal shower at Athena Banquet Hall in Roseville last night, wounding at least three people before the suspects fled the scene. The shooting happened inside the venue on Gratiot Avenue near 10 Mile Road, turning a private celebration into a chaotic crime scene in a matter of moments.
According to The Metro Detroit News, the shooting erupted during the bridal shower and left multiple people wounded, with at least three victims confirmed shot. The suspects fled before officers arrived, and as of the report, they had not been identified or apprehended. Emergency dispatch logs indicate Roseville police and emergency crews responded to the hall around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, locating at least one victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest and requesting help from neighboring departments for crowd control, according to a post shared on Facebook.
The exact number of victims and their medical conditions beyond that one gunshot wound to the chest remain unclear, as do the identities of the shooters and whether they were invited guests or outside actors. It's also not yet known what sparked the gunfire inside a hall full of people gathered to celebrate an upcoming wedding.
A Venue With a Violent Past
This is not the first time gunfire has broken out at the Gratiot Avenue banquet hall. Back in June 2015, shots were fired outside the same venue, then known as Athena Banquet Center, leaving two people injured, according to ClickOnDetroit. More than a decade later, the hall remains a popular spot for weddings, showers, and community galas in Macomb County, per WeddingWire, but the repeat incident is likely to raise fresh questions about security at the multi-room venue during large private events.
Legal Stakes if Suspects Are Caught
Whoever is eventually charged in the shooting could face steep mandatory penalties under Michigan law. Under Michigan Compiled Laws Section 750.227b, possessing or carrying a firearm during the commission of a felony carries a mandatory minimum two-year prison sentence for a first offense, served consecutively to and before any sentence for the underlying crime, according to the Michigan Legislature. Separately, state law under MCL 750.224f bars anyone previously convicted of a felony from possessing a firearm for three to eight years after completing their sentence and probation, with violations punishable by up to five years in prison.
Macomb County has leaned hard on those firearm statutes in recent cases. In July, a 57-year-old Roseville resident was sentenced in Macomb County Circuit Court to two to 30 years in prison plus a mandatory consecutive two-year firearm penalty after opening fire during a dispute outside a local business. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido reiterated at the time that his office strictly enforces mandatory firearm penalties to hold violent offenders accountable, according to CBS Detroit.
Part of a Broader Pattern in Roseville
Saturday's shooting adds to a string of gun violence incidents that Roseville police have handled this year. In January, officers faced a standoff near Frazho Road where a suspect was charged with 14 felonies, including assault with intent to murder, after firing a weapon at responding officers. Between 2013 and 2025, Roseville recorded 22 homicides and logged 15,063 total arrests across all offense categories, according to Police Scorecard data.
The Roseville Police Department employs more than 150 sworn officers and maintains specialized units, including its Criminal Investigation and Crime Suppression Units, that are typically tasked with investigating active violent incidents like Saturday's shooting, per city records. It remains unclear whether surveillance footage from nearby Gratiot Avenue businesses has helped investigators identify the suspects who fled the scene.
