San Diego gets a much-needed step down from last week’s heat today, but the relief arrives in classic local fashion: a gray, foggy morning before the sun takes over. Temperatures should climb from the low 70s to about 84 degrees, with no meaningful rain in the forecast.
Fog Burns Off Before A Sunny Afternoon
Patchy fog may linger along the coast until about 11 AM today, then skies should turn sunny. Southwest winds will stay light, generally 0 to 10 mph, while tonight drops to around 69 with more patchy fog developing after 11 PM, according to the National Weather Service.
Cooler Week Keeps San Diego Near Normal
Tomorrow brings a high near 81, followed by mostly sunny or partly cloudy skies and highs around 81 on Tuesday, 82 on Wednesday through Friday, and 83 on Saturday. Overnight lows will generally stay in the upper 60s to around 70.
Rain remains mostly off the table through Friday, with precipitation chances in the single digits. Saturday carries a slight chance of showers after 5 p.m., but the current forecast does not point to a widespread washout.
Beachgoers Face Elevated Surf And Rip Currents
The bigger outdoor-planning wrinkle is at the shoreline. A south-southwest swell is expected to produce 3- to 5-foot surf with sets up to 6 feet and a high rip-current risk at southwest-facing beaches, especially in northern San Diego County.
Another southerly swell could keep waves elevated Monday through Wednesday. The coast may look sunny by midday, but swimmers and surfers should pay attention to lifeguard guidance and changing water conditions.
