The Anderson County Coroner was called Monday to the 40 block of Tilman Court off Highway 81, where officials confirmed a homicide investigation is now underway. No details about the victim's identity or cause of death have been released.
The coroner's response, reported by FOX Carolina News, sent crews to the scene as the investigation got underway Monday morning. The address sits inside Walker's Pointe, a more than 60-acre master-planned subdivision off Highway 81 North and McGee Road in unincorporated Anderson County, according to Homes.com. Because the home lies outside Anderson city limits, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office holds primary law enforcement jurisdiction over the case alongside the coroner's office, per the sheriff's office.
An Upscale Corner of the County
Homes along Tilman Court represent some of the priciest real estate in Walker's Pointe, with half-acre to near-acre lots listed between $540,000 and $650,000 as of this month, according to Palmetto Park Realty. The neighborhood falls within Anderson County School District 5, zoned for North Pointe Elementary, McCants Middle School and T.L. Hanna High School, per Realtor.com, putting the investigation in the middle of a family-dense residential pocket of the county.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the coroner's role, any autopsy or toxicology testing, or any reporting requirements in the case.
State Forensic Resources Could Get Involved
It remains unclear whether the Anderson County Sheriff's Office has requested help from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division in the investigation. Whether a suspect is in custody or being actively sought, along with the official cause of death, are among the open questions authorities have not yet addressed publicly.
The Tilman Court case adds to a busy recent stretch for Anderson County's coroner and law enforcement agencies. Just a day earlier, sheriff's deputies opened an investigation into an Ashley Avenue shooting that wounded one victim near East Shockley Ferry Road, with no suspect publicly named. On August 21, the coroner's office and SLED responded to a deputy-involved shooting in Townville that resulted in the death of a 55-year-old woman, with SLED assuming lead investigative responsibility under standard officer-involved protocol, according to SLED.
Recent Investigations in the County
The Tilman Court homicide comes as the county has nonetheless seen several violent incidents investigated in recent weeks, including a fatal Anderson Road crash the coroner's office responded to earlier this month and a case in which a man was charged with his mother's murder after burned remains were found in a backyard pit.
No further information about the Tilman Court investigation has been released as of publication. Hoodline will update this story as the Anderson County Coroner's Office and Anderson County Sheriff's Office release additional details.
