Seattle Police are investigating a death discovered early Thursday on the Mountains to Sound Trail just north of Holgate Street, dispatching the department's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigation team to the wooded corridor that links Beacon Hill and SODO. Officers asked the public to stay clear of the area while the scene is processed.
In a post shared early Thursday, the Seattle Police Department said its Public Information Officer, Homicide Unit and CSI personnel were all responding, cautioning that the preliminary information released so far is "subject to change" and promising more details later. The department asked anyone with an emergency to call 911 rather than reply to the social media post, noting that the account itself is not actively monitored.
History of Violence Along This Greenbelt Corridor
This isn't the first serious incident along this stretch of trail. In September 2024, a 31-year-old man was shot in the torso and a 32-year-old woman was assaulted near South Holgate Street and the Mountains to Sound Trail, according to KIRO 7, in a case that led to the arrest of a 53-year-old male suspect and that Hoodline covered at the time in a North Beacon Hill shooting report. Then in October 2025, Seattle Police officers fatally shot a 46-year-old man reportedly armed with an axe and a handgun near 5th Avenue South and South Holgate Street, adjacent to the same trail corridor, per KIRO 7.
Just months before Thursday's discovery, on March 27, the King County Medical Examiner's Office documented a death at that same Holgate Street and Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail junction, identifying the decedent as a 59-year-old man who died of acute combined drug intoxication, according to records from the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
