Atlanta is starting Friday under clear skies and near-80-degree temperatures, but the real story is waiting in the afternoon: a high near 95 with a heat index around 104. A Heat Advisory runs from noon Friday through 8 p.m. Saturday, when heat-index values could reach 109 across parts of north and central Georgia.
Friday Storms Won’t Break The Heat
Mostly sunny skies will dominate much of Friday before a chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m. The National Weather Service’s Atlanta office says the storms could bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain, but coverage will be limited and a brief downpour is unlikely to deliver lasting relief, according to its heat guidance.
Hotter Days Are Ahead
Saturday should reach 96 degrees with a heat index as high as 105, followed by a sunny 97-degree Sunday. Monday could be the hottest day of the stretch at 100 degrees, with highs near 97 Tuesday, 96 Wednesday and 97 Thursday.
Overnight lows will remain stuck in the upper 70s, offering little relief for homes without reliable air conditioning. Afternoon storm chances continue through next week, but the forecast remains dominated by oppressive heat and humidity.
Limit Outdoor Strain
Drink plenty of water, stay in air conditioning or shade when possible, and move strenuous outdoor work to early morning or evening. Lightweight clothing, frequent breaks and checking on older neighbors or anyone with health concerns will matter during the advisory period.
