A Heat Advisory is in effect across Atlanta and much of Georgia through 8 p.m. Sunday, with heat index values potentially reaching 109 degrees. The NWS Peachtree City warns that high humidity and elevated overnight temperatures could leave little relief for people who are vulnerable to heat illness.
Saturday’s storms should remain isolated, but any that develop could bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain. The best chance arrives during the afternoon and early evening, so outdoor plans may need both shade and a quick route indoors.
Monday Could Reach 100 Degrees
Sunday is forecast to be sunny and hotter, with a high near 97 degrees and a heat index around 102. Monday looks like the peak of the current heat wave, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 100, followed by another warm night around 77 degrees.
The forecast stays relentlessly hot through Wednesday, with highs near 97 each day and overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 70s. A better chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms returns Thursday and Friday, when highs ease slightly into the mid-90s.
The latest outlook is a substantial escalation from the earlier summer pattern described in earlier Hoodline coverage, with Atlanta now facing several days of triple-digit-feeling heat. Residents should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day and check on neighbors who may not have reliable air conditioning.
