The National Weather Service says Thursday's rain chance is only about 20%, so most of the city should stay dry. Any shower or thunderstorm that develops could still deliver a quick heavy downpour and gusty winds, while a regional Heat Advisory remains in effect for portions of central and eastern Georgia Thursday afternoon.
Weekend Heat Keeps Climbing
Friday looks mostly sunny with a high near 95°F, while the heat index could reach 102°F. Overnight lows will remain stuck in the mid-70s, offering limited relief before Saturday climbs to about 97°F.
Saturday and Sunday bring the better storm chances, with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and a 30% chance Sunday afternoon and evening. Most storms should be scattered rather than widespread, but the National Weather Service warns that stronger cells may bring brief heavy rain and wind gusts.
Monday Could Be The Hottest Day
Monday is forecast to be sunny and near 98°F, making it the hottest day in the current outlook. Tuesday should remain near 97°F with a slight afternoon storm chance, followed by a somewhat cooler 95°F Wednesday.
Outdoor workers, runners and anyone planning extended time outside should schedule strenuous activity for the cooler morning or evening hours, drink water regularly and take breaks in air conditioning or shade. The NWS heat guidance also recommends checking on older adults, young children and others more vulnerable to heat illness as the weekend heat builds.
