A Friday evening collision on a Houma-area road turned deadly when a Kia Optima crossed the centerline and slammed head-on into a Honda CR-V, killing a 58-year-old local man and sending the other driver to an out-of-area hospital. The crash happened just before 5 p.m. on Bayou Gardens Boulevard Extension near Louisiana Highway 600, and Louisiana State Police are still working to determine why the Kia entered the wrong lane.

According to WDSU, Timothy Brewer of Houma was driving the Kia west on Bayou Gardens Boulevard Extension when it crossed into the eastbound lane. The Honda CR-V driver was traveling east and suffered moderate injuries before being transported to an out-of-area hospital. Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Same Houma Road Has Seen Another Fatal Head-On Crash

The roadway has also been the site of another deadly head-on collision in recent years. In an April 2024 release, Louisiana State Police said a 71-year-old Houma woman died after crossing the centerline on Bayou Gardens Boulevard Extension and striking another vehicle; the other driver suffered minor injuries.

The cause of Friday's crash remains under investigation, and the initial report did not announce any arrest or criminal charge. Investigators have not said whether impairment, distraction, a medical emergency or another factor contributed to the Kia crossing the centerline, according to WDSU.
