Jacksonville is starting Sunday clear and sticky, with temperatures climbing toward 94 degrees by afternoon. The heat index could reach 102, while only a few showers or thunderstorms are expected to develop later in the day.
Sunday’s Heat Peaks Before A Few Storms
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville says skies should remain mostly sunny through late morning, with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Southwest winds will run 5 to 8 mph, and temperatures should reach the low 90s during the early afternoon before easing slightly.
Most of the city should stay dry, but any storm that forms could bring lightning, a brief downpour and gusty winds. Stronger storms are more likely south of Interstate 10 and near sea-breeze boundaries toward St. Johns and Flagler counties, while no watches or warnings are currently posted.
Monday Stays Hot Before Storm Odds Jump
Monday will offer another mostly sunny start, with a high near 94 and heat-index values as high as 103. The bigger shift arrives Tuesday, when showers and thunderstorms become likely after 2 p.m., with a 70% chance of precipitation and a high near 92.
Active Afternoon Storm Pattern Through Friday
Wednesday through Friday will keep the familiar Northeast Florida routine: mostly sunny mornings followed by afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Highs will hold near 92 to 93 degrees, overnight lows will stay around 75, and rain chances will range from about 60% Wednesday and Thursday to 70% Friday.
The updated outlook is a meaningful change from an earlier Jacksonville forecast, with slightly lower temperatures but a wetter setup by midweek. Saturday remains warm near 93, with a 50% chance of afternoon storms.
Beach Plans May Need A Backup
Surf should remain around 1 to 2 feet, but afternoon rip-current risk could reach moderate levels through the middle of the week as sea breezes push toward the coast. Outdoor plans will be most comfortable in the morning, and anyone who hears thunder should head indoors immediately.
