Two Jeeps turned a Roseland gas station into a drive-through before dawn Monday, with thieves smashing through the minimart and hauling away its ATM. No injuries were reported, but the break-in adds another major commercial burglary to a Chicago pattern that has been hard to miss this spring and summer.
The theft happened around 3:44 a.m. when a blue Jeep crashed into the front door of a gas station minimart in the 400 block of East 95th Street, near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and across from Chicago State University. According to CBS Chicago, two thieves entered the store, removed the ATM, loaded it into a white Jeep and fled. Calumet Area detectives were investigating.
Roseland Theft Follows String Of Chicago ATM Attacks
The Roseland incident follows another attempted ATM grab in North Lawndale last month, where a crew rammed a restaurant and tried, unsuccessfully, to drag out the machine. Hoodline reported that the suspects left in a white SUV after damaging the storefront, with no injuries reported.
The pattern has also stretched across Chicago’s South Side. FOX 32 Chicago reported in May that police were seeking suspects accused of using a stolen car to ram four gas stations in Bronzeville and Woodlawn over four days, with the crews fleeing in a second vehicle. Police have not publicly said whether Monday’s Roseland theft is connected to those earlier cases.
