A 25-year-old man from Kansas City's Northland drowned Saturday at Table Rock Lake after swimming away from shore at Moonshine Beach. He began struggling, went underwater and did not resurface, and authorities said he was not wearing a life vest.
The man swam away from shore and began struggling, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol drowning report described by The Kansas City Star. Paramedics declared him dead at 1:48 p.m., nearly 30 minutes after the initial incident.
Fatal Incident Happened Near Branson
Moonshine Beach is about 20 minutes west of downtown Branson and roughly three and a half hours south of Kansas City. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says its online boat and drowning reports are preliminary and are maintained through the agency's Water Patrol Division.
Moonshine Beach Has Seen Earlier Drowning
The latest death is not the first fatal swimming incident reported at the popular beach. In July 2023, KCTV5 reported that a 44-year-old Louisiana man drowned at Moonshine Beach after losing his grip on a flotation device while swimming.
