Monday will be warm and humid in Kansas City, but the thermometer will climb quickly toward a high of 100. By afternoon, heat index values could reach 103, turning a sunny day into a serious heat concern across the metro.
A Heat Advisory takes effect at noon Monday and continues through 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. South-southwest winds around 12 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph, will offer little relief from the heat.
The Heat Hangs On Through Wednesday
Tuesday should be sunny with a high near 99 and a heat index around 100, followed by another hot day Wednesday with temperatures near 98. Overnight lows will stay unusually warm, around 79 to 80 degrees, limiting the amount of relief available after sunset.
The Kansas City/Pleasant Hill weather office says the prolonged heat and warm nights are driving the advisory, with heat index values generally expected between 100 and 105 across the broader region. The extended forecast discussion is available from the National Weather Service.
Little Rain And Slow Relief
Rain is not expected to provide much of a break this week. Thursday should remain sunny and near 97 degrees, while Friday and Saturday ease only slightly to temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s before Sunday reaches about 92 under mostly sunny skies.
A few showers or thunderstorms could develop across far northern Missouri Wednesday night into Thursday morning, but Kansas City’s rain chances remain low through most of the period. The new advisory and sharper heat readings mark a substantive escalation from the earlier Hoodline forecast.
Plan Around The Afternoon Heat
Outdoor work, exercise and errands will be safer early in the morning or later in the evening, when temperatures are lower. Drink plenty of fluids, use air conditioning or shade during the hottest hours, wear loose lightweight clothing, and check on older neighbors, children and pets.
