East Knox County is getting a new place to handle everyday finances, with KTVAECU breaking ground on its 25th branch in Strawberry Plains. The credit union expects the new location to open in early 2027, adding another financial-services hub along one of the region’s steadily developing corridors.
The groundbreaking took place last Thursday in the Strawberry Plains area, where the branch will serve members in eastern Knox, Sevier and Jefferson counties. The Knoxville Focus reports that KTVAECU chose the location after members requested a branch closer to home. President and CEO Lynn Summers said the project reflects the credit union’s effort to listen to the communities it serves.
A Full-Service Credit Union Branch Is Planned
The Strawberry Plains location is expected to offer checking and savings accounts, auto and home loans, business services and personal assistance from a local team. KTVAECU’s existing branch network also provides services such as instant card printing, deposits, notary work, wire transfers and cashier’s checks, according to KTVAECU’s branch directory.
The project arrives as development continues around Strawberry Plains Pike and nearby areas north of Interstate 40. A Knoxville-Knox County Planning Commission report describes significant residential growth in the area, citing a 349-unit apartment complex, a 24-lot subdivision and a 322-lot housing development under construction or moving through the planning process.
New Housing Is Reshaping The Strawberry Plains Corridor
That growth helps explain why a requested branch could make sense now, even as the community debates how quickly new housing and commercial services should arrive. The credit union is framing the branch as a practical expansion of local access rather than a flashy reinvention: more accounts, loans and business services without sending members across the county.
Construction is already underway, with completion expected in early 2027. Once open, the Strawberry Plains branch will become the latest link in KTVAECU’s growing East Tennessee network—and a new stop for residents who would rather spend their time managing money than driving to manage it.
