Las Vegas Sizzles: Three More Days of Brutal 110-Degree Heat Ahead

Las Vegas woke Wednesday to clear skies and an early-morning temperature around 88 degrees, but the brief respite will not last. The valley is headed for a high near 111 as a dangerous stretch of extreme heat continues through the workweek.

Wednesday Peaks Near 111

Temperatures are expected to climb past 100 degrees by late morning, reach the mid- to upper 100s around midday, and peak near 111 during the afternoon. The heat index could reach 105, while winds remain light early before turning southeast at roughly 1 to 9 mph.

An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for the Las Vegas Valley through 8 p.m. Friday. The National Weather Service says overnight lows will stay in the upper 80s, offering little relief for homes, workers and anyone spending time outside.

Triple-Digit Heat Eases Slowly

Thursday will be nearly as hot, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 110; southeast winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Friday should dip only slightly to around 108, followed by a gradual cooldown to 105 Saturday, 102 Sunday and 99 Monday.

Rain is unlikely in the valley, with daily chances generally below 10 percent. Isolated showers or thunderstorms could still develop over higher terrain, and any storm that forms may produce sudden, erratic wind gusts even without much rain.

Heat Safety Remains The Priority

Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity to the early morning or evening, drink plenty of fluids and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade. The City of Las Vegas also advises checking on older adults, neighbors and others who may be especially vulnerable, and warns that children and pets should never be left in parked vehicles.

Anyone showing signs of heat exhaustion should be moved to a cooler place and given small amounts of water. Confusion, fainting or other signs of heat stroke require immediate medical attention and a call to 911.
