A Linn County man is in custody after authorities say he beat a woman and tried to run her over with a car during a domestic incident at the Lake Chaparral community near Mound City, Kansas. Mathew Hudson fled the scene before deputies tracked him down the next day at a residence just across the county line, where he surrendered.
Linn County deputies responded to the domestic incident at the gated Lake Chaparral community on August 11, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office. Officials said the female victim was severely battered, and authorities say Hudson also attempted to run her over with a car before fleeing. Lake Chaparral is a private, gated subdivision built around three lakes in rural Linn County, according to the Lake Chaparral Property Owners Association, sitting roughly an hour south of the Kansas City metro.
The response extended into a second county after Hudson fled the scene. Linn County officials, working with the Miami County Sheriff's Office, tracked him to a residence in neighboring Miami County on August 12, per the same account from the sheriff's office. He was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated battery.
A Multi-Agency Response Across County Lines
The response followed the August 11 incident and involved agencies in both counties. Miami County deputies later became involved. By August 12, authorities were preparing to apprehend Hudson.
Before any tactical team could deploy, Hudson surrendered to Miami County deputies at approximately 3 p.m. on August 12 at a residence near 327th Street and Plum Creek, the sheriff's office said. Hudson was then turned over to Linn County custody to face charges.
