A 61-year-old Ontario man is facing 15 counts of second-degree arson after authorities linked him to a series of fires in Brogan Canyon and along Huntington Road in Malheur County. Paul C. Emerson was arrested on July 21 and arraigned the following day, with bail set at $750,000. The sheriff’s office has not said whether the fires allegedly connected to Emerson caused any of the active wildfires reported in the county.
According to KPTV, the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office said Emerson was arrested after investigators linked him to fires reported in the two areas. He was arraigned on 15 second-degree arson counts, and the court set his bail at $750,000.
A report from Elkhorn Media Group, which published details from the sheriff’s office, said Emerson was taken into custody at his residence. The investigation remains active, with the Bureau of Land Management, Oregon State Police, Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office involved.
