Durham police responded to the scene around 8:05 p.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. As of early Tuesday, investigators had not identified any suspects.
According to WRAL, the Durham Police Department received reports of a shooting at the shopping center shortly after 8 p.m. Monday and arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound outside the bar. Responding officers set up crime scene tape surrounding the establishment, and the outlet's breaking news tracker spotted several police cruisers stationed around the sports bar as the investigation unfolded. Police say the victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
No Suspects Identified as Investigation Continues
The Durham Police Department has not identified any suspects in the shooting, leaving open basic questions about what led to the gunfire outside the bar and whether it followed some kind of altercation inside. It's also unclear whether the shopping center venue had posted signage barring handguns on the premises. Under North Carolina General Statutes § 14-269.3, carrying a firearm into an establishment that sells and serves alcohol is a Class 1 misdemeanor, though the law carves out exceptions for valid concealed handgun permit holders who aren't drinking and where no prohibition sign is posted, per the North Carolina General Assembly.
