A serious two-vehicle crash on Pond Street in Braintree left both drivers injured Saturday, with one operator flown to a Boston hospital after being found unconscious inside a heavily damaged Nissan. The other vehicle was a Mazda, and police said the cause remained under investigation.
According to a Braintree Police Department release, officers were dispatched to 555 Pond Street after a report of a motor vehicle accident. Responding officers rendered aid and removed the Nissan driver from the vehicle, police said. The driver was suffering from serious internal injuries.
Both Drivers Were Taken For Medical Treatment
Both drivers were transported to South Shore Hospital for treatment. Boston MedFlight transported the Nissan operator to a Boston hospital for more advanced care, while officials did not release either driver's condition or identity.
The Nissan and Mazda sustained heavy front-end damage. The cause of the crash had not been determined, and the investigation remained active Sunday.
State Police And Norfolk County Officials Assisted
The Massachusetts State Police C.A.R.S. section and Crime Scene Section assisted Braintree investigators, while the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office also assisted with the incident, according to Braintree police. The Braintree Fire Department and Brewster Ambulance also responded to the scene.
The police release did not announce any citations or criminal charges. Investigators have not said whether additional updates will be released as the crash investigation continues.
