According to Action News 5, the robbery happened just after 9 p.m. on July 31 at a Family Dollar on South Third Street. Police say the man entered pretending to shop, reached into the register, fought with the cashier when she tried to stop him, grabbed cash and fled on foot wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants.

Family Dollar robberies have surfaced in Memphis throughout 2026. In a March report, Hoodline detailed a Feb. 25 incident at a Crosstown store in which two men allegedly tried to leave with loaded shopping carts before a gun was pulled on an employee.

Earlier, the Memphis Police Department said a suspect robbed a Family Dollar on Winchester Road on July 4 after demanding money from the registers and safe. Police said that suspect also fled on foot, leaving investigators to seek help from the public.
