A Mojo Donuts shop is set to open at The Walk in Coral Springs, at 2810 N. University Dr., by the end of summer 2026, bringing the Pembroke Pines-born doughnut brand back into expansion mode in Broward County. The announcement comes roughly two years after the company's three Miami-Dade County franchise locations shut down by the end of 2024.
Founder Shawn Neifeld, a Pembroke Pines entrepreneur, spent five years searching for the right Broward location before landing a storefront at The Walk just a few doors down from Starbucks, according to Coral Springs Talk. As the Miami Herald reports, Mojo Donuts has grown across South Florida since Neifeld founded it in 2013, and the new shop will offer treats, drinks and snacks to Coral Springs customers. The site sits within The Walk, an 1,800-foot pedestrian-friendly mixed-use commercial strip managed by Amera Corporation that was voted the 2024 Reader's Choice for Best Shopping Center in local voting, per the same account.
A Brand Built on Music and Late-Night Reinvention
Neifeld opened the original Pembroke Pines bakery in 2013 with his wife, Shelly, after an earlier career as a nightclub DJ and entertainer, and after owning an ice cream shop in Lauderhill, according to a Broward-Palm Beach New Times account of the company's early years. That music-industry background carried into the menu, where signature items like the “Oreo Speedwagon” and the cinnamon-sugar “Me and Mrs. Jones” nod to classic pop culture, as noted by Business Debut. Mojo Donuts offers flavors including Log Cabin Bacon and Spectacular Mango Brulee, per the Miami Herald, alongside the pop-culture-inspired staples that have become part of its identity.
The brand picked up serious culinary credibility over the years. In June 2022, Yelp ranked Mojo Donuts No. 4 on its Top 100 Donut Shops in the U.S. list, making it the highest-ranked doughnut shop in Florida that year, according to iHeart. The shop also landed national television exposure when it was featured on a 2018 episode of Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, where host Guy Fieri praised its rice pudding-stuffed Abuelita Donut and savory Chicken Brulee Sandwich, per Mental Floss.
What Happened to the Miami Locations
Mojo Donuts had three franchise locations in Miami-Dade County, including one in Coral Gables, and all three closed by the end of 2024. Hoodline previously reported on the Miami shop closures, which involved the Kendall, Coral Gables and Bird Road storefronts. Those locations were operated under a licensing agreement by MOJO DONUTS + FRIED CHICKEN LLC, an entity that voluntarily dissolved in December 2024 and was corporately separate from Neifeld's flagship store, according to a public statement posted on the company's own website and corroborated by Sunbiz.org filings. Neifeld retained sole ownership of the original Pembroke Pines location and the brand's trademarks throughout the licensee's dissolution.
Rotating Menu and a Monthly Charity Push
The Coral Springs shop plans to offer 30 to 40 rotating daily doughnut varieties, introducing a 24-hour aged brioche dough alongside the traditional cake and yeast styles the brand is known for, according to Business Debut. The company also runs a monthly Donut 4 Change program, crafting dedicated specialty doughnuts each month to donate proceeds to nonprofits including the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, the Humane Society of Broward County, and the Broward Health Foundation, the outlet notes.
The opening lands amid a broader push to reshape the surrounding commercial corridor. Coral Springs' City Village downtown redevelopment project, an Amera-led revitalization along Sample Road and University Drive, is scheduled to break ground on Phase 1 in late 2025 to add 300 apartments and thousands of square feet of retail, according to Coral Springs Talk. The Mojo Donuts opening gives the wider Walk shopping center another draw as that redevelopment effort moves forward nearby.
