San Diego woke today under cloudy skies and patchy fog, with temperatures around 70 degrees at San Diego International Airport before a sunny afternoon pushes the city toward 82. The coastal gray is temporary, but the heat story gets more serious once you head inland or toward the deserts.
Fog Before 11, Sun By Lunch
The National Weather Service San Diego expects patchy fog through 11 AM, then mostly sunny skies with west winds from 0 to 10 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low near 69, and patchy fog will return after 2 AM tomorrow.
Warm Stretch Holds Through Next Week
Tomorrow should look much the same, topping out near 82, followed by highs around 83 on Friday and Saturday. Next Sunday may be the warmest day in the city at about 84, with mostly sunny skies, while next Monday and Tuesday settle near 83; overnight lows will stay close to 70.
Heat Alerts East Of The Coast
The biggest concern is outside the city. A Heat Advisory covers the Inland Empire from 10 AM today through 8 PM. Tomorrow, while an Extreme Heat Warning covers the Coachella Valley, San Diego County deserts, and San Gorgonio Pass near Banning through 8 PM Friday.
Those areas could reach the triple digits, and afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible in the mountains and deserts tomorrow and Friday, with another chance around next Monday. For San Diego's coastal neighborhoods, the practical forecast is simpler: expect foggy starts, sunny afternoons, and no meaningful rain in the city through next Tuesday, with no hazardous marine conditions expected through next Sunday.
