A routine laundry run at a Beachwood apartment complex took a sharply uncomfortable turn when a 53-year-old resident allegedly stripped naked and walked through a second-floor hallway. A neighbor’s doorbell camera captured the man passing by without clothes, prompting a police call.
According to Cleveland.com, the incident happened last Wednesday at The Vantage apartments, where a resident emailed the building manager after seeing the man naked. Police were called, and management identified the resident involved.
The man acknowledged walking naked in the hallway while doing laundry and reportedly told police he had “made a mistake.” He also said he had consumed a four-pack of Moscato wine before heading to the laundry room, and told officers he would not walk naked in public again, according to Cleveland.com’s report.
Ohio Law Treats Public Exposure As Public Indecency
Beachwood police arrested the man on suspicion of indecent exposure. Under Ohio’s public-indecency statute, recklessly exposing private parts in circumstances where nearby people are likely to see and be affronted is generally a fourth-degree misdemeanor for a first offense.
The case appears to be an unusual one for the suburb. Beachwood’s publicly posted 2025 police report lists two calls under “indecent exposure,” alongside thousands of other service calls, according to data from the Beachwood Police Department.
Police told the man that apartment hallways may be inside a private building, but they are still shared spaces where neighbors can reasonably be expected to encounter other people. In other words, the laundry room may be communal, but it is not a clothing-optional zone.
