Two people were found dead Saturday morning after a house fire in Maricopa, turning a residential scene near Honeycutt Road into the focus of a possible arson investigation. Their identities remained unknown as authorities worked to determine what started the blaze and whether anyone else was involved.
The Maricopa Fire/Medical Department and Maricopa Police responded around 11:30 a.m. Saturday to the home near Honeycutt Road and North Porter Road, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. Firefighters found two people dead inside, while an arson investigator and police began examining the cause.
Victims Remain Unidentified As Cause Stays Open
The investigation comes as Maricopa Fire/Medical expands its fire-prevention and investigative operations. In a June update, the City of Maricopa said the department had reestablished a dedicated Fire Prevention Division led by Fire Marshal Eddie Rodriguez, along with a full-time in-house arson inspector.
Officials had not released the victims' names or explained whether the fire was believed to have been deliberately set, FOX 10 Phoenix reported. No arrests or other suspects had been announced in the initial account.
