A light northeast breeze of 6 to 9 mph should keep the day comfortable, and rain is not expected. Saturday night turns partly cloudy, with temperatures settling near 72.
Sunday Starts Calm Before The Rain Moves In
The National Weather Service is calling for a partly sunny Sunday, but the forecast takes a turn after 2 p.m. A chance of showers arrives during the afternoon before showers and thunderstorms become more likely Sunday evening. The daytime rain chance is 50%, with a high near 79 before temperatures slip into the mid-70s.
Sunday night is expected to bring the week's most unsettled weather, with a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms and rainfall totals between three-quarters of an inch and 1 inch. The National Weather Service says locally heavy downpours could cause minor flooding in urban and poor-drainage areas, along with isolated flash flooding. Southerly winds of 12 to 16 mph will add to the soggy conditions.
Anyone with Sunday evening outdoor plans should be ready for a quick change from warm and manageable to wet and stormy. The rip-current risk is also expected to increase at ocean beaches, reaching moderate levels and possibly becoming high at New York City and Nassau beaches if winds and seas build faster than expected.
Dry Weather Returns For The Middle Of The Week
Showers could linger into Monday morning, especially before 2 p.m., but the forecast calls for improving conditions and a high near 84. Tuesday looks sunny with a high around 82, followed by another sunny and warmer day Wednesday near 85.
The next chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Thursday, with a 40% chance of rain and a high near 85. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for New York City in the current forecast.
