An ozone Air Quality Alert covers the Oklahoma City metro from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m., and the National Weather Service Norman recommends that people with heart or respiratory conditions reduce strenuous outdoor activity.
The alert also asks residents to cut back on unnecessary driving, postpone refueling until later in the day, avoid gasoline-powered yard equipment and skip outdoor burning. Those precautions arrive as afternoon heat and ozone levels rise together, creating a tougher setup for anyone spending hours outside.
Weekend Heat Reaches Triple Digits
Friday night stays clear, with a low near 74 degrees. Saturday climbs to 100, with heat-index values as high as 101 and south winds around 10 mph that could gust to 18 mph.
Sunday is expected to be the hottest day of the weekend at 102 degrees under sunny skies. Monday remains around 102, followed by highs near 100 Tuesday and about 101 Wednesday and Thursday, leaving Oklahoma City without a meaningful cool-down in sight.
Dry Weather Keeps Fire Risk Elevated
Rain chances remain near zero through the middle of next week, while the forecast discussion warns that hot, dry conditions and very dry fuels will support elevated fire-weather conditions most days this weekend into next week. Stronger southerly winds could add to the concern, particularly across western Oklahoma.
