Oklahoma City is starting Thursday clear and near 75 degrees, but the calm morning will give way to another dangerous blast of summer heat. Temperatures are expected to reach 101 degrees, with heat index values climbing as high as 108.
A Heat Advisory is in effect Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. for Oklahoma City and much of central Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service office in Norman. Southwest winds around 10 mph will offer little relief, while rain chances remain near zero for most of the day.
Heat Peaks Thursday Afternoon
The hottest stretch arrives from early afternoon through the late afternoon, when temperatures are forecast to hover near 99 to 101 degrees. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms enters the forecast Thursday evening between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., but most of the metro should stay dry.
Overnight temperatures will only fall to about 78 degrees, keeping homes, cars and pavement slow to cool. Residents should drink water regularly, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon, and check on older adults, children and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
Triple-Digit Heat Continues Into Next Week
Friday brings another high near 100 degrees, with a 20% chance of showers or thunderstorms and heat index values up to 104. Saturday through Monday look mostly sunny and near 100, followed by highs around 99 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The City of Oklahoma City maintains heat-health resources and information on cooling locations for residents who need relief. Even with a few storm chances Friday, the broader pattern remains hot and mostly dry, so outdoor plans will need plenty of water, shade and breaks from the heat.
