Oklahoma City is starting Friday under clear skies, but the calm morning will quickly give way to dangerous heat. Temperatures already sit around 82 degrees early, with the afternoon high expected to reach 103 and the heat index climbing as high as 109.
Heat Advisory Covers The Weekend
A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Sunday, with heat-index values of 105 to 110 possible across the area, according to the National Weather Service. South-southwest winds around 16 mph, with gusts up to 24 mph, will add some movement to the air but will not make the afternoon feel comfortable.
Saturday and Sunday will bring little relief, with sunny skies and highs near 102 both days. Overnight lows will remain close to 80, meaning homes and buildings may not cool down much before the next round of afternoon heat arrives.
Brief Storm Chance Before More Triple-Digit Heat
Monday brings a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., but most of the day should stay mostly sunny with a high near 98. The heat returns Tuesday with a high near 102, followed by an even hotter Wednesday near 104 before temperatures ease slightly to around 100 Thursday.
People spending time outdoors should move strenuous activity to the morning or evening, drink plenty of water and check on older adults, neighbors and pets.
