Oklahoma City woke up clear and in the upper 70s Monday, but the easygoing start will not last long. Temperatures are expected to climb to about 101 degrees, with heat index values reaching as high as 105 under sunny skies.
A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Monday across Oklahoma City and much of central Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service. South-southwest winds around 13 mph may gust to 20 mph, adding to the strain for anyone working or exercising outdoors.
Heat Builds Through The Afternoon
Monday afternoon should stay dry and bright, with temperatures nearing 90 degrees by noon and reaching the upper 90s during the midafternoon. Rain chances are essentially zero in Oklahoma City, so umbrellas will be less useful than water bottles and a reliable air conditioner.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, take breaks in air conditioning or shade, and check on older adults, young children, neighbors and pets. The Oklahoma Emergency Management also recommends knowing where to find an air-conditioned public building if a home is not adequately cooled.
Little Relief Arrives Overnight
Monday night will remain clear, but the low will only fall to around 79 degrees, with heat index values still potentially reaching 104. Tuesday is forecast to bring another sunny 100-degree afternoon, followed by a low near 81, while Wednesday could reach 101 with another warm night.
Triple-Digit Forecast Extends Into The Weekend
The heat is expected to peak near 102 degrees Thursday before easing only slightly to around 100 Friday through Sunday. Rain chances remain minimal, and the forecast discussion says additional heat advisories will likely be needed Tuesday and Wednesday as the hot, dry pattern continues.
