City officials said roads and bridges were closed Sunday, while county emergency services warned drivers about washouts and dangerous conditions. The National Weather Service had issued a Flash Flood Emergency around 12:30 a.m. for an area including Mount Airy, Flat Rock and Toast, warning of a life-threatening situation and urging residents to move to higher ground, according to Spectrum News.
Another Flood Alert Had Already Hit Surry County
The latest emergency follows another serious flood warning in northeastern Surry County last month. That alert included Mount Airy, Flat Rock and Toast and warned that thunderstorms could produce rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour, as detailed by Hoodline.
