Louisville is about to get its own slice of the islands, with a new music festival bringing beach songs, tropical food and a charitable mission to NuLu this Saturday. Island Rock Fest will make its debut at Lou Lou on Market during a roughly 10-hour celebration built for fans who like their summer concerts with a side of flip-flops.
The free, all-ages festival runs from noon to 9:30 p.m. and will feature island rock, reggae, coastal country and other beach-inspired sounds, according to WLKY. LEO Weekly reports that the lineup includes Steffan Weston, Jason Parroco & Friends, PMA Sound, SandBarSoul and Eric Brown & The Boat Drinkers. The closing set is billed as a Jimmy Buffett tribute, while the broader musical palette nods to artists including Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band. Festival food is expected to include shrimp ceviche with fried plantain chips and Rock Island jerk grouper with mashed sweet potatoes and braised cabbage.
The setting is a natural fit for the theme: Lou Lou on Market describes itself as a New Orleans-inspired restaurant and live-music destination with a large patio in the heart of NuLu. Its French Quarter-style atmosphere may not come with actual oceanfront property, but it does offer the sort of festive backdrop organizers are chasing.
The Festival Also Supports Alzheimer’s Programs
The Derby Parrothead Club, which is collaborating on the festival, plans to continue supporting the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana through raffle and auction items donated by members, community supporters and participating musicians, LEO Weekly reports. The Alzheimer’s Association’s Kentucky chapter says it provides support services, care options and education for families and caregivers across the state.
