A Philadelphia man who groomed an 11-year-old girl online, moved her across state lines and kept her hidden in South Jersey hotels will spend 27 years in federal prison. The case ended Tuesday with a sentence that also keeps Bobbyjean Orak under federal supervision for life after his release.
Orak, 31, pleaded guilty to a five-count indictment involving the enticement of a minor and the production and possession of child sexual abuse material, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. The sentence follows a month-long investigation that ultimately reunited the girl with her family.
Online Relationship Led To Cross-State Search
The relationship began online in 2022, when Orak concealed his identity and developed a sexual relationship with the child, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. Investigators said he later transported her from Pennsylvania to New Jersey, where federal agents and local police found her in Atlantic County.
According to NBC10, Orak encouraged the girl to leave her Philadelphia home in the middle of the night, then moved between hotels while isolating her from relatives. Officials also said he committed gas station robberies in Burlington County to help pay for the hotel stays before authorities located him and the girl at a hotel in Galloway.
The federal indictment included charges for transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, interstate travel to engage in unlawful sexual conduct, enticing a minor, and producing and possessing child sexual abuse material. The New Jersey U.S. Attorney’s Office said investigators later found substantial amounts of such material involving the girl and other victims, and described the prosecution as part of the Justice Department’s Project Safe Childhood initiative.
Sentence Falls Within Plea Agreement Range
A February report by BreakingAC said Orak’s plea agreement called for a federal sentence of 300 to 360 months. The 27-year term imposed Tuesday equals 324 months, followed by lifetime supervised release.
