Dust And Storms Could Arrive After Sunset
Sunday afternoon should stay sunny, with mostly light winds and the worst heat arriving late in the day. According to the National Weather Service, blowing dust could develop between 7 and 9 p.m., followed by a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms from roughly 9 p.m. into early Monday.
The storm chance is only around 20% Sunday night, but any outflow could bring sudden wind shifts, gusts near 20 mph and reduced visibility in dust-prone parts of the Valley. Overnight temperatures will struggle to fall below about 89 degrees, with heat index values still near 110.
Monday Starts The Cooler, Stormier Turn
Monday will remain dangerously hot, with a high near 107 and heat index values as high as 111, but the forecast turns more active after 5 p.m. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, with a 60% chance of rain and possible rainfall totals between a quarter-inch and half-inch.
Storm chances continue Tuesday, when Phoenix could reach 103 degrees, then become more widespread Wednesday as the high drops near 101. Thursday may bring another round of morning storms before a drier pattern returns for Friday and Saturday, with highs around 102 and 105.
Heat Relief And Safety Still Matter
Until the warning expires, residents should postpone strenuous outdoor work, drink water regularly and take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning. Maricopa County says people who need a cool place, water or transportation assistance can call 2-1-1 for heat relief; anyone showing signs of heat stroke should be moved to a cooler place and treated as a medical emergency.
