Phoenix is starting Tuesday near 90 degrees, but the Valley is headed toward another dangerously hot afternoon. Skies will stay sunny as temperatures climb to about 109 degrees, with the heat index reaching 113. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect as the region settles into several more days of triple-digit heat.
The National Weather Service in Phoenix says the warning will continue through 8 p.m. Friday, August 7. Wednesday should reach 108 degrees, followed by another 109-degree day Thursday, while Friday and Saturday could peak near 111 with overnight lows hovering around 90.
Blowing Dust Could Return Tuesday Night
Tuesday night will remain mostly clear, with temperatures dropping only to around 89 degrees. Patchy blowing dust is possible between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., as south-southwest winds increase to 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
Storm chances will remain limited in Phoenix through midweek, with most activity favoring eastern and southeastern Arizona. Still, thunderstorms in those areas could send gusty outflow winds and pockets of dust into the Valley, especially during the evening and overnight hours.
Small Storm Chances Grow By Sunday
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms enters the forecast Wednesday and Thursday evening, with a better chance arriving Sunday and Monday. Sunday carries a 30% rain chance with a high near 109, while Monday could bring a high around 105 and another 30% chance of storms.
Heat Relief Resources Available Across Maricopa County
Residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade. Maricopa County says people seeking cooling centers, water or transportation assistance can call 2-1-1.
Anyone showing signs of heat stroke, including confusion, fainting or loss of consciousness, needs immediate emergency care. Move the person to a cool place and call 911.
