Kansas City Council has signed off on another addition to Weatherby Meadows, the sprawling residential project taking shape near Kansas City International Airport in Platte County. The council unanimously approved the newest addition last week, adding 30 more home lots and three tracts of residential open space to a development that keeps growing in stages just off Northwest Barry Road.
The latest addition, formalized through Ordinance No. 260713, was finalized on August 20, 2026, and covers 7.6 acres at the southeast corner of Northwest Barry Road and North Childress Avenue, according to City of Kansas City legislative records. As The Kansas City Star reports, Brian Mertz leads the Weatherby Meadows project, which sits near Park Hill's Hawthorn Elementary School and close to Weatherby Lake.
This is not the first time the project has expanded beyond its original footprint. The first phase, approved in 2023, called for 138 homes across roughly 40 acres of undeveloped land near Northwest Barry Road and North Childress Avenue, per the same municipal filing. A Weatherby Meadows item appeared in a July 24, 2025, council meeting, according to Kansas City government meeting records.
