A motorcyclist died Friday night after a single-vehicle crash on an I-84 exit ramp in east Portland, prompting a Major Crash Team investigation and temporary closures near Northeast 122nd Avenue.
East Precinct officers responded to the ramp from eastbound I-84 to Northeast 122nd Avenue and found the lone rider down and unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced the rider deceased at the scene, according to a Portland Police Bureau release. Police did not provide the rider's identity or a cause of the crash in the initial notice.
Ramps Closed During Crash Investigation
The off-ramp to Northeast 122nd Avenue was closed while investigators documented the scene, along with the on-ramp from Northeast 122nd Avenue to eastbound I-84. The bureau said its Major Crash Team is handling the investigation and will release more information when appropriate.
Portland's 2024 deadly traffic crash report counted 58 people killed in traffic crashes across the city, with 71% of those deaths occurring on the city's High Crash Network. The report also found that at least 48% involved speeding, though those citywide figures do not establish what caused Friday's crash.
Police Ask Witnesses To Share Information

The fatality comes as Oregon continues updating its statewide road-safety strategy. The Oregon Department of Transportation says traffic deaths have declined since 2022 but fatalities and serious injuries remain higher than they were a decade ago, with its updated plan aimed at reducing deaths and serious injuries across the state.
