Prairie Village has lost one of its neighborhood pasta spots, but Va Bene’s most popular dishes are getting a second act elsewhere in the Kansas City area. The Italian eatery closed at the end of July after six years of serving handmade pasta, family dinners and date-night plates at Corinth Square.
The closure followed the owners’ announcement that they could not reach a new lease agreement with the shopping center’s owners, according to KCTV5’s report. Va Bene opened in 2020 and built its identity around scratch-made pasta and straightforward Italian cooking.
Va Bene’s Scratch Pasta Is Moving To Two Other Restaurants
Rather than disappearing completely, some of Va Bene’s most popular pasta dishes will be offered at Louie’s Wine Dive in Overland Park and Gram & Dun on the Country Club Plaza. The two restaurants are part of the same VinZant restaurant group, with Louie’s listing its Overland Park location and Gram & Dun operating on the Plaza.
The owners did not announce a replacement concept for the Corinth Square space in the closure update. For diners, though, the news is less a hard goodbye than a change of address: the pasta survives, even if the original dining room does not.
Most Va Bene Employees Will Stay With VinZant Restaurants
The majority of Va Bene employees are expected to move to other VinZant restaurants in the area, KCTV5 reported. That gives regulars a chance to reconnect with familiar staff while the restaurant group folds part of Va Bene’s menu into its other Kansas City operations.
The closing had been announced earlier in July, when The Kansas City Star reported that Va Bene planned to serve customers through the end of the month. Now the doors at Corinth Square are closed, but the restaurant’s scratch-made pasta will remain on the local dining map in a slightly different form.
