A Miami-born wellness café chain known for açaí bowls, cold-pressed juices and grass-fed steak plates is planning to open in the ground-floor retail space of The Henry, the 18-story luxury condominium at 211 West 84th Street. Pura Vida Miami will occupy just under 2,900 square feet of frontage along West 84th Street, marking the health-focused all-day café's latest push into Manhattan's residential neighborhoods.
News of the opening was first reported by iLoveTheUpperWestSide.com, which noted that no opening date has yet been announced for the Upper West Side location. The café will sit inside a building with a fraught construction history: developer Naftali Group purchased the site at 207-221 West 84th Street for $71 million in 2022, but the project was delayed after a holdout residential tenant refused to vacate the rental building previously occupying the site, according to West Side Rag. Naftali Group filed a lawsuit against the tenant, and the standoff was only resolved when the resident, Ahmet Nejat Ozsu, agreed to a buyout following public legal battles, allowing construction to resume in the summer of 2023.
A Condo Tower With a $489 Million Sellout
The Henry, designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, spans roughly 250 feet of frontage along West 84th Street and holds 45 luxury units. The New York State Attorney General accepted Naftali Group's condominium offering plan in March 2024 with a total sellout valuation of $488.9 million, and per Forbes, the building's first two penthouses entered contract for a combined $48.5 million within a month of sales launching in late 2024. Prices at The Henry range from $2.425 million to $28.75 million, and sales launched in 2024, according to the seed report from iLoveTheUpperWestSide.com.
Residents of the building have access to a private garden, an indoor pickleball court, a basketball court, a bowling alley, a movie theater and 17 enclosed parking spaces, per West Side Rag's earlier coverage. That kind of amenity package underscores the affluent, residential profile of the neighborhood Pura Vida is now targeting for its eighth New York City outpost.
From South Beach Juice Bar to National Wellness Brand
Pura Vida Miami was founded in 2012 in South Beach by Omer Horev and Jen Horev, and its menu has grown to include açaí bowls, smoothies, cold-pressed juices, wellness shots, grain bowls, protein bowls, salads, wraps, sandwiches, avocado toasts, egg sandwiches, and coffee and matcha drinks, all cooked without seed oils, the company says. The chain now runs an all-day menu spanning breakfast through dinner and has dozens of locations across Florida along with outposts in California, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
Pura Vida opened its first New York City location in NoMad in July 2024, and told Eater at the time that it planned to have ten New York locations by 2026. The chain has since expanded across the city with locations in Bleecker Street, Nolita, Bryant Park, DUMBO and Williamsburg, plus a spot at 1598 Second Avenue on the corner of East 83rd Street on the Upper East Side dating to 2025. In June 2026, the company opened a flagship at 100 Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron District that, per QSR Magazine, is the largest Pura Vida location anywhere.
Private Equity Money Fuels the Expansion
The rapid buildout is being powered in part by outside investment. Private equity firm TSG Consumer Partners, which has previously backed chains including Crumbl Cookies and Dutch Bros Coffee, acquired a strategic minority growth stake in Pura Vida in November 2025 to accelerate its multi-state expansion, according to Restaurant Business, with co-founders Omer and Jennifer Horev retaining majority control. The same outlet reported that Pura Vida expanded its executive bench in June 2026, hiring former Sweetgreen culinary head Chad Brauze as Chief Culinary Officer, former Shake Shack development executive Andrew McCaughan as Chief Development Officer, and former Oakberry CMO Bruno Cardinali as Chief Marketing Officer.
That same month, the chain rolled out its largest menu innovation in more than a decade, adding a 100% grass-fed and grass-finished sirloin steak plate marinated in a custom seed-oil-free blend across all national locations, per NOSH. Real estate firm Two Trees Management announced in December 2025 that Pura Vida had signed a 4,000-square-foot lease at 79 Front Street in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood for its seventh New York City outpost, a sign of how quickly the chain's Northeast footprint has grown since its 2024 debut.
Pura Vida has also built a reputation for landing in exclusive or high-visibility settings elsewhere. In June 2024, it became the first outside food and beverage operator permitted to open on Florida's Fisher Island in the 36-year history of the Fisher Island Club, according to the Miami New Times. More recently, skincare brand Neutrogena partnered with Pura Vida in July 2026 for a cross-promotional takeover at select New York and California stores, gifting sunscreen to customers who bought full-sized smoothies. The company also says it preps all produce in-house and partners with local organizations to compost food waste, donating the resulting soil back to community farms.
Whether the Upper West Side location will match that momentum remains to be seen, since no opening date has been set for the West 84th Street café. Hoodline has previously covered a Long Beach retail debut, a planned Tampa storefront, and a Fairfax, Virginia opening as part of the chain's broader national rollout. Naftali Group, meanwhile, has faced separate legal scrutiny on another Manhattan project, having been hit with a $3 million lawsuit over unpaid wages tied to an Upper East Side condo development, according to Hoodline's earlier reporting.
