Sacramento starts Friday with clear skies and temperatures around 61 degrees, but the mild morning will quickly give way to a dangerous stretch of triple-digit heat. The city is forecast to reach 102 degrees Friday, with even hotter afternoons ahead this weekend.
Heat Peaks Saturday And Sunday
A Heat Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Sunday for Sacramento and surrounding valley and foothill areas, according to NWS Sacramento. Saturday is expected to reach 103 degrees, followed by a Sunday high near 104 as heat risk rises from moderate to major across parts of the region.
Skies will remain sunny and rain is not expected in Sacramento. Southwest winds should stay relatively light at about 2 to 7 mph, offering little relief during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Warm Nights Offer Limited Relief
Friday night will be mostly clear with a low around 64 degrees, while Saturday night only drops to about 66. Those warmer overnight temperatures can make it harder for homes and bodies to cool down, especially for older adults, young children and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
Forecasters expect a modest cooldown Monday, when Sacramento reaches about 97 degrees, followed by highs near 96 Tuesday and 98 Wednesday. Thursday looks slightly cooler near 94, but the entire week remains sunny and dry.
Heat Safety Remains The Priority
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon. Lightweight clothing, shade and regular check-ins with relatives and neighbors can also help reduce the risk of heat illness.
