A San Antonio police academy cadet was hospitalized Tuesday after his weapon discharged and struck him in the foot, sending emergency crews to the training facility. The injury was serious enough to require hospital treatment, but officials said it was not life-threatening.
According to News 4 San Antonio, the cadet is a man between 30 and 40 years old. The San Antonio Police Department said the weapon fired accidentally, and the cadet was transported to a local hospital; no other injuries were reported.

Police have not identified the cadet or explained exactly how the accidental discharge happened. That leaves key questions unanswered, including what type of academy activity was underway when the weapon fired.
The City of San Antonio says cadets receive more than 1,300 hours of training, including a skills block led by firearms, driving and tactics instructors. The department has not announced any additional action involving the cadet, and the incident remains limited to a non-life-threatening injury based on the information released so far.
