San Antonio Sizzles: Heat Advisory Extends Triple-Digit Blast Through Wednesday

San Antonio starts Tuesday, August 25, under clear skies and temperatures in the mid-70s, but the brief morning relief will disappear quickly. The city is headed for a sunny afternoon near 103 degrees, with heat-index values reaching about 105.

Heat Advisory Runs Through Wednesday

Bexar County is included in a Heat Advisory running through 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 26. The National Weather Service says some areas could see temperatures up to 105 degrees and heat indexes as high as 110, making this a more serious escalation from earlier August forecasts such as Hoodline’s earlier report.

Tuesday night will stay mostly clear, with a low around 77 degrees, but it will not feel especially cool. South winds of 5 to 10 mph could gust to 25 mph, while the heat index may remain as high as 104.

Wednesday, August 26, brings another sunny high near 103, with heat-index readings up to 106. Rain chances remain minimal around San Antonio through Wednesday, and the overnight low should only fall to about 79 degrees.

Storm Chances Return Thursday

The forecast finally adds a chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday, August 27, mainly during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures should still reach around 100 degrees, with a 30% chance of rain during the day and a 40% chance Thursday night.

Friday, August 28, stays hot near 99 degrees, with only a slight chance of afternoon storms. The weekend looks drier and mostly sunny, with highs near 98 on Saturday and Sunday before similar heat continues into Monday, August 31.

Plan Outdoor Time Carefully

Residents should limit strenuous outdoor work during the afternoon, drink plenty of fluids and take frequent breaks in shade or air conditioning. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing can help, and the National Weather Service advises checking on older adults, neighbors and anyone especially vulnerable to heat.

Heat exhaustion symptoms should be taken seriously, while heat stroke is an emergency requiring a call to 911. Pets, children and outdoor workers will also need extra water, shade and breaks during the advisory period.
