A San Bernardino County Sheriff's detective was shot Wednesday afternoon while helping serve a search warrant at a home in the Antelope Valley and was rushed to a hospital for treatment. The shooting happened near Avenue R and 130th Street East in Palmdale, triggering a heavy law enforcement response from two counties as the investigation remains active.
The department said the detective was shot while conducting the investigation and later transported for medical care, adding that additional information would be released as it becomes available, according to a statement posted by San Bernardino County Sheriff on X. Emergency responders were dispatched to the 13000 block of East Avenue R around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, per CBS Los Angeles, which reported that deputies and detectives were executing the warrant when the shooting occurred.
Two SUVs, Doors Open, Mark the Scene
Aerial television footage from the property showed more than a dozen law enforcement vehicles gathered at the remote address, with crime scene tape cordoning off two white SUVs whose doors had been left open, the outlet's coverage showed. Because the shooting occurred inside Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to assist San Bernardino County investigators, who retain jurisdiction over the case.

Authorities have not said what the search warrant targeted, the extent of the detective's injuries, whether deputies returned fire, or whether anyone was taken into custody at the scene. San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr. was also killed in the line of duty in March 2025, in a vehicular crash during a pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Victorville, according to the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs.
