San Diego Sizzles: Heat Advisory Hits Coast as Morning Fog Burns Off

San Diego is starting today around 72 degrees under mostly clear skies, but patchy coastal fog may linger through late morning. The gray should give way to mostly sunny skies, with temperatures climbing to about 85 degrees and only a slight chance of rain.

Heat Advisory Arrives Tuesday

The bigger shift begins Tuesday, August 25, when the National Weather Service Heat Advisory takes effect for San Diego County coastal areas. It runs from 10 AM tomorrow through 8 PM Friday, with mid-80s expected near the beaches and lower to mid-90s possible on mesas and higher coastal terrain.

Warmest Stretch Peaks Thursday

The city forecast rises to 86 degrees tomorrow, 89 degrees Wednesday, and 90 degrees Thursday before easing to 88 degrees Friday and 87 degrees Saturday. Overnight lows will remain in the low to mid-70s through Friday night, offering limited relief after the sun goes down.

Foggy Mornings, Hotter Inland Afternoons

Patchy fog is expected before 11 AM today through Thursday, followed by sunny or mostly sunny afternoons. Rain chances near the coast remain around 1% to 4%, while the mountains and deserts could see a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, along with gusty, erratic winds.

Across the broader region, NWS San Diego expects much more intense heat inland, with lower deserts near 110 degrees today and potentially reaching 112 to 116 degrees Thursday. People spending time outdoors should drink plenty of fluids, take breaks in shade or air conditioning, avoid the hottest sun and check on relatives and neighbors during the advisory.
