San Jose is starting today under cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60s, but the weekend forecast is a different story. The city is expected to reach 88 degrees today before a sharp warm-up pushes highs into the 90s.
Tomorrow should bring mostly sunny skies and a high near 93, followed by next Sunday’s peak of about 95 degrees. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Santa Clara Valley and Eastern Hills from 10 AM tomorrow through 10 PM next Sunday.
Hottest Stretch Arrives Saturday
This afternoon will stay dry, with northwest winds building from around 1 mph in the morning to roughly 8 mph later in the day. Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low near 62.
Tomorrow night will remain clear with a low of around 64, while next Sunday night drops to about 63. The warm afternoons and limited overnight relief are expected to be most challenging for people without reliable cooling, older adults and others sensitive to heat.
Coast Stays Cooler As Interior Dries Out
The immediate coast should see more relief from the marine layer, while inland communities such as San Jose heat up under mostly sunny skies. Forecasters are also flagging near-critical fire weather conditions in higher terrain through Sunday because of hot, dry conditions and very low afternoon humidity.
Heat Safety Takes Priority
Drink water regularly, wear lightweight clothing and move strenuous outdoor activities to the morning or evening. The weather service also cautions residents never to leave children or pets in unattended vehicles, where temperatures can become deadly within minutes.
The heat should ease somewhat next Monday, when San Jose is forecast to reach about 90 degrees, followed by highs near 89 next Tuesday, 87 next Wednesday, and 84 next Thursday.
