Shake Shack will fire up its newest North Texas location next Wednesday at 1701 Shoal Creek inside The Shops at Highland Village, with doors opening at 10 a.m. following a 9:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring company representatives and local officials. The grand-opening celebration will also include live music on the patio, giving Denton County burger fans their first taste of the fast-casual chain's suburban debut.

The menu leans on Shake Shack staples — the Shackburger, crinkle-cut fries, crispy chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, hand-spun shakes, house-made lemonades and frozen custard — alongside a limited-time West Coast menu and a Dubai chocolate pistachio shake, according to CultureMap Dallas. The first 100 customers through the door will walk away with a Shake Shack Texas-themed tumbler. In a release, Ravi Wadhwa said The Shops at Highland Village is thrilled to welcome Shake Shack and expects it to become a vibrant gathering place, the outlet reported.

Grand-Opening Perks and a Charity Tie-In

Beyond the tumblers, Shake Shack will donate $1 for every sandwich sold on opening day to the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation, which supports programs for students across Lewisville ISD. The nonprofit's reach extends well beyond a single promotion: it awarded $358,047 in scholarships to 478 graduating seniors this past April and regularly funds K-12 teacher innovation grants ranging from $300 to $2,500. The new Shack will operate from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

A Shopping Center Still Adding Big Names

The new Shack lands inside an open-air lifestyle center spanning more than 350,000 square feet, anchored by AMC Theatres, Barnes & Noble and Whole Foods Market and managed by JLL. The property serves affluent communities across southern Denton County.

The center has been steadily upgrading its tenant mix, with Lululemon, Dragon House, Drybar and iCRYO all signing on in 2025, as reported by REBusinessOnline. Hudson House is also slated to open at the center later this year, per CultureMap Dallas's reporting on the shopping district's plans.

Why Highland Village Draws Premium Burger Chains

Highland Village's appeal to a premium burger concept comes down to its wallet: the city's median household income is $159,828, roughly double the Texas state average, with a population of about 16,100 residents, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates.

The city's transformation from lake town to commercial magnet took decades. Incorporated in 1963 with just 516 residents recorded in 1970, Highland Village saw explosive growth after nearby Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened, swelling to more than 15,000 residents by 2010, according to Wikipedia. The city today covers about 5.5 square miles along Lewisville Lake.

Part of a Broader North Texas Push

Highland Village marks another suburban notch for a chain building fast across North Texas. Shake Shack now counts 15 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and more than 30 statewide as of July, according to Hoodline, which also detailed a $1.3 million Wylie drive-thru the chain filed plans for in Collin County, targeted for completion in May 2027.

The suburban build-out follows a strong showing nationally: the company reported $417.6 million in total quarterly revenue and 16 new company-operated store openings in its second-quarter 2026 report, keeping it on pace for 60 to 65 new company-operated locations this year, according to Shake Shack Inc.. System-wide sales reached $625.8 million with same-store sales growth of 3.5% for the quarter, the company reported.

The chain's roots trace back to a hot dog cart that grew into the original Shack in Madison Square Park in New York City in 2004, per CultureMap Dallas. That single cart has since multiplied into more than 705 locations system-wide, including over 250 international outposts across cities like London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo and Seoul, with about 455 locations spread across 35 U.S. states, the outlet reported. Corporate financial summaries reported by Minichart put the global count slightly higher, at more than 710 system-wide locations, including roughly 460 U.S. shops across 35 states.
