Las Vegas is starting Tuesday under clear skies and bone-dry air, but the bigger story is a forecast high near 113 degrees. Temperatures were around 82 degrees before sunrise at the North Las Vegas station, with humidity near 16%, and conditions will turn dangerously hot by afternoon.
Triple-Digit Heat Arrives By Afternoon
Sunny skies will send temperatures from the upper 80s early Tuesday to roughly 106 degrees around noon and 113 degrees during the afternoon. South winds will increase to 3 to 16 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, while rain is not expected.
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday for the region, with the National Weather Service in Las Vegas warning of highs from 110 to 120 degrees across the Mojave Desert. Overnight relief will be limited, with lows near 87 degrees Tuesday night and climbing to around 88 Wednesday, 90 Thursday, and 91 Friday and Saturday.
Heat Remains Relentless Through Saturday
Wednesday should also reach 113 degrees, followed by highs near 112 Thursday and Friday and 113 Saturday. Temperatures ease slightly Sunday to around 111 degrees and Monday to about 108, while increasing moisture late in the weekend could bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on relatives and neighbors. The warning also includes a reminder that children and pets should never be left in unattended vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
