Las Vegas is heading into one more dangerously hot day before a long-awaited cooldown begins. Friday’s high is expected to reach 108 degrees, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect through 8 p.m. and overnight temperatures lingering near 90.
Friday Brings The Last Big Heat
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas forecasts mostly cloudy skies turning partly sunny, with temperatures climbing past 100 degrees by late morning and peaking around 106 to 108 in the afternoon. South-southwest winds will increase through the day, reaching 16 mph with gusts as high as 26 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
There is only a 7% chance of precipitation in the valley, but isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop over higher terrain nearby. Even storms that do not bring rain into Las Vegas may send sudden, erratic outflow winds across the valley, making afternoon outdoor plans more difficult.
Cooling Stations Stay Open Through Saturday
Clark County has activated daytime cooling stations at recreation centers, libraries and community centers through Saturday, August 29. Some locations can accommodate pets, and residents can check the county’s cooling-station list for locations and details.
Health officials recommend drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and checking on older neighbors or anyone without reliable air conditioning. Children and pets should never be left in unattended vehicles, where temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
Weekend Winds Arrive With The Cooldown
Saturday will be sunny but still hot, with a high near 104 and southwest gusts reaching 30 mph. Sunday drops to about 101 degrees, followed by highs near 98 Monday and 95 Tuesday as the heat finally loosens its grip.
Overnight lows should fall into the upper 70s to mid-80s early next week. Wednesday brings a slight chance of morning showers before mostly sunny skies return, with a high near 96.
